Y’know, we’ve all been bitching about the glacial pace of the investigation into January 6….well,all of us except the MAGAts who are screeching about moving on, as if a blowjob investigated for three years wasn’t in their history.
We all perceive AG Merrick Garland as some stooge who is trying to let cases die on the vine and the House Select Committee as a bunch of incompetent boobs who can;t see the nose on their own faces.
You know what I’ve taken great comfort in, as far as the pace of the investigation has gone?
The silence.
I’d rather Congress and the DoJ work diligently behind the scenes, gathering evidence and connecting the dots on what is beginning to look like a massive, national conspiracy to overturn a fundament of democracy: elections.
And it;’s beginning to look like that wall of silence is about to shatter with public revelations. It will all start witht he indictment of Mark Meadows.
You might remember him as the Chief of Staff for The Former Guy at the time of the election/coup. You may remember that he was cooperating with the Congressional investigation until he wasn’t. Now we have a pretty clear rationale for withdrawing his cooperation:
"I think that some of what we have seen in the last few days may explain why the Department of Justice has not yet indicted Mark Meadows for contempt, and it may be because these documents show him to be an active participant in a coup," said [former Watergate attorney Jill] Wine-Banks. "And maybe they are looking at him more seriously for a substantive part and for obstructing Congress. I think he could be guilty of both and that it is very important to work between the Congress and the prosecutors to make sure of that."
To be sure, it’s a speculation but think about the implications: When Meadows believed he could simply be portrayed as a conduit for communications to Trump, his legal liability was pretty marginal. After all, you don’t indict the telephone, you indict the texter.
But now we have this massive cache of texts discoverd by CNN, and, well, it seems Meadows was hip-deep in planning and executing the coup. Still worse, Meadows seemed to have everyone from Administration officials all the way down to hangers-on like the wives of SCOTUS Justices and local officials giving him advice, meaning that these plans were hardly secret.
(Side-note: The creepiest part of the texts I’ve reviewed is that Jared Kushner seems to be the only voice of reason in the entire web.)
This begins to tie on with a theory I’ve had ever since it was revealed back in 2016 that the NRA was laundering illegal Russian campaign contributions for Vladimir Putin.
It’s not just Trump that has been co-opted, it’s the entire “movement conservative” movement in America, and possibly the world.
It’s a stretch, particularly given that we have our own oligarchs who have committed their fortunes to fucking around in the hopes they aren’t found out, but the Panama Papers (there’s an undereported story if I’ve ever heard one) suggests that Putin and his state-contrlled banks were funding and elevating far-right politicians like Marine Le Pen in France, the Alternative für Deutschland movement in Germany, and yes, probably was funneling money into America.
After all, if you’re going to destroy democracy in the world, you need to get the head of the snake too!
And there’s plenty of evidence of how deep Russia’s tentacles reached into American politics: The Paradise Papers.
Specifically, these guys.
You guys, for the past twenty years, maybe longer, we’ve been held hostage by a foreign goverment posing as a political party!
To me, the Meadows indictment — a forgone conclusion — is crack #1 in the wall that has protected this egregious traitorous selling of the American economy and justice system to the lowest bidder.
And as it falls, there won’t be many who don;t get a brick or two to the head.
